Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar - Unofficial Website

General MacArthur is a 5th class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 12,148 people. The town was created from the barrios of Pambujan Sur, Calutan, San Isidro, Vigan, Binalay, Camcueves, Domrog and Pingan of the town of Hernani by virtue of Republic Act No. 193, enacted on June 22, 1947.


The municipality of Gen Mac Arthur, Eastern Samar was created by Republic Act No. 193 that was approved in Congress on June 22, 1947 with six original barangays namely Binalay, Calutan, Domrog, Pingan, San Isidro and Vigan. Before its existence as an independent municipality, significant events played a very important role in the history of the municipality. In the seventeenth century when a family of settlers from Barrio Alingarog of Guiuan decided to travel northward to look for a better way of life and come to settle permanently in a place now called Gen. Mac Arthur.

Urged by Very Rev. Father Uldarico Villasin, then parish priest of Gen. MacArthur, and confirmed by the late, Msgr. Miguel Acebedo, then bishop of Calbayog, two sisters from Assumption College in Guiuan, were sent to MacArthur in 1949. They would open a school to prevent the start of a Protestant school in this town. For the first two years, OUR LADY OF FATIMA ACADEMY was affiliated to Assumption College.

The traditional Alumni Homecoming parade will feature a DANCE/COSTUME GRAND PARADE similar to the popular dance parades, e.g. Ati-Atihan, Sinulog, Dinagyang, etc


  1. Concept is left to each batch’s interpretation. Each batch may decide the theme, costume and dance steps they will present.
  2. Judging will be done in 2 phases of the parade. The Mobile performance will comprise 50% of the total score while the Focal performance (after parade) will comprise the remaining 50%.
  3. There will be a Judging Area along the route of the parade. Each batch must perform their dance steps for a maximum of 2 minutes only to the judges.
  4. The Focal performance will be held at the OLFA Quadrangle after the parade. Each batch will be given a maximum of 3 minutes to perform, including entrance and exit.
  5. Each batch may employ a choreographer or a group that will lead them in the dance steps during the Mobile performance and in the Focal performance (after parade presentation).
  6. Each batch may use live music (band or instruments) or recorded music in their dance performance.,
  7. Dance steps should be progressive all throughout the parade route.


1. THEME/ CONCEPT (30%) - Interpretation - Relevance as interpreted in music, dance movement and artistic expression. 2. CHOREOGRAPHY (20%) - creativity and artistry of movement patterns- formation - smooth transitions - appropriateness of movement 3. PERFORMANCE (20%) - Execution - Mastery and coordination - Synchronicity and precision - Energy - Projection 4. COSTUME (20%) - Color combination - Design - Style 5. PROPS (10%) - Artistry design - Effective use - Relevance to the performance and concept TOTAL: 100%


Winners of the Dance/Costume Parade will receive the following cash prizes:
